The heat is definitely on the Mortensen Hall stage as it transforms to war-torn Saigon during the Vietnam War. Miss Saigon, the phenomenal and acclaimed musical that took the theater world by storm when it premiered in London in 1989, will be at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts this summer. Opening on September 17, 2013, Miss Saigon will be playing in Hartford until September 22, 2013.
Based on Puccini’s well-loved opera, Madame Butterfly, Miss Saigon tells Kim’s story and her ultimate sacrifice for her son. Kim, a Vietnamese girl, and Chris, an American soldier, meet and fall in love but becomes separated when Saigon fell. Their struggles to be reunited eventually lead to a heartbreaking conclusion.
