A West End production opened on September 27, 2006 after previews that began on September 7. That production also is still running.

The original Broadway show was nominated for 10 Tony Awards in 2004, including Best Musical. It won three of those awards.

Alli Mauzey made her Broadway debut in “Hairspray” in 2003, and is perhaps best known for playing Lenora in the Broadway production of “Cry Baby.” She won a Theatre World Award for her performance in “Cry Baby” and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award.
