Coming to Tampa in early 2013 is the most anticipated musical adaptation of the season, ‘Flashdance – The Musical’. Based on the iconic 1983 film of the same name, this inspiring and energetic production will run at the Carol Morsani Hall of the Straz Center from February 19 to 24, 2013.
To be choreographed and helmed onstage by Sergio Trujillo of ‘Jersey Boys’, ‘Memphis’ and ‘Addams Family’ fame, ‘Flashdance’ chronicles the inspiring journey and day-to-day struggles of Alex, a young, strongly motivated, vibrant and aspiring dancer who moonlights as a welder by day to support herself while trying to snag a spot at Shipley Dance Academy. The musical features songs and scores from Robbie Roth and Robert Cary (who also co-wrote the adapted book along with Tom Hadley) which includes 16 original material plus five of the original film’s popular and well-loved themes such as ‘Maniac’, ‘Gloria’, ‘Manhunt’, ‘I Love Rock n’ Roll’ and of course, the ever favorite, ‘Flashdance – What a Feeling’. The performance running time is 2 hours 35 minutes with 1 intermission.
