‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical’ comes to Hartford, CT for a week-long run at the William H. Mortensen Hall of the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts from November 20 to 25, 2012.

It may be paradoxical but ‘Grinch’, a musical that subtlety critiques materialism and consumerism, celebrates a season when these two concepts are so carefully intertwined, largely practiced and generally tolerated. The musical, based on Dr. Seuss’ book of the same name and the yearly animated special from Chuck Jones also of the same name, is a timeless and clever show that features a monstrous-looking anti-hero – the Grinch – as the central character whose antics, which include stealing Christmas presents from the Whos, antithetically spreads the valuable and ageless lesson that the season is not about the tangible presents that we buy for ourselves or for others, but the intangible gifts of hope, joy, charity, gratitude and belongingness that pulls families and people in general much closer, even if it’s just once a year. The kids will surely enjoy the impeccable comedic timing and the cartoonish visuals while the adults will be just as engaged with the show’s ingenuity, substance masked by rhythmic verses and jolly tunes, relevance and timelessness.

‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical’ will play the Mortensen Hall at 7 PM on November 20, 21, 23 and 24. Matinee performances are aplenty: 11 AM and 2 PM from November 23 to 25, and a third matinee performance on the 25th at 5 PM.
