Hugh Dancy Takes Starring Role in ‘Venus in Fur’

Hugh Dancy is joining the cast of the upcoming Broadway premiere of David Ives‘ ‘Venus in Fur’. Directed by Tony Award Winner Walter Bobbie, the show also stars Nina Arianda and begins previews October 13th at the Samuel Friedman Theatre. Produced by Manhatten Theatre Club (Lynn Meadow), the play will officially open on November 8th, and will play a limited 10-week engagement.

Dancy made his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning revival of ‘Journey’s End’ in 2007. He followed that up with 2009s ‘The Pride.’ He will soon be featured in the upcoming films ‘Our Idiot Brother’ and ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene.’

Dancy can currently be seen on Showtime’s original series ‘The Big C’ in a multi-episode arc opposite stars Laura Linney and Oliver Platt. On the show, he takes on the role of a charismatic cancer patient who becomes friends Cathy (Laura Linney) during their time shared in an experimental drug trial. The second season of the show premiered on Monday, June 27, 2011.

‘Venus in Fur’ is the story of Vanda (Arianda), a gifted young actress determined to land the lead in Thomas’ (Dancy) new play based on the classic erotic novel, ‘Venus in Fur.’ Vanda’s emotional audition for the brilliant yet demanding director becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex.
