‘Master Class’ Makes Jump to the West End with Tyne Daly

“Master Class” which closed on Broadway on September 4, 2011 is going to London’s West End in 2012. The Tony Award winning drama by Terrence McNally will also be bringing its leading actress with it. Tyne Daly who is best known for her role in the television show “Cagney and Lacey” will reprise her Broadway role in “Master Class” when the show opens in London.

According to the BBC, the show will open January 21 at the Vaudeville Theatre. The original “Master Class” won a Tony Award for Best Play. Tyne Daly played the lead role Opera legend Maria Callas in the drama. The 65-year-old actress brings with her an award winning resume.

Daly won four Emmys for her role on “Cagney and Lacey.” She won two more one for her work in the television show “Christy” and another for “Judging Amy.” Tyne’s television career started in 1968; she has also appeared in films. Daly made her Broadway debut in “That Summer-That Fall” in 1967. She won a Tony Award for her role in “Gypsy” in 1990.

The rest of the cast has not been determined yet. One thing is for sure; the drama will have at least one outstanding actress in Tyne Daly. Being a West End show, the production will likely have an all star cast once it opens.
