Stage Adaptation ‘Once’ Set for Jacobs Theatre, Broadway Opening February 28

Once, the musical based on the 206 movie is coming to Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre starting February 28, 2012. The 28th marks the first preview and will officially openMarch 18, 2012. Like the movie the musical will features songs written by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Once will star Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti. Kazee has starred on Broadway in 110 in the Shade, Spamalot, and Seascape. He also has starred on television in “Working Class.” Cristin Milioti has appeared on “The Sopranos” and “30 Rock” on television. Milioti has appeared on Broadway in The Lieutenant of Inishmore and Coram Boy. Off Broadway she has appeared in The Devil’s Disciple, Crooked, Some Americans Abroad, Stunning and The Little Foxes.

The movie was a low budget success grossing over $20 million dollars worldwide while taking less than $200,000 to make. Obviously the music and the story make Once the success. The story was written by Enda Walsh. As a fan of musicals featuring pop music it is a show I am looking forward to in 2012.
