‘The Addams Family’ Closes December 31, Brooke Shields Extends Run

Fans of Broadway’s ‘The Addams Family’ got a dose of good news, bad news this week. Brooke Shields will be extending her run as Morticia on the show through the end of the year. Previously, she was due ot wrap her run October 30. Unfortunately, the last performance for Shields will also mark the end of the line for the rest of the cast as well. ‘The Addams Family’ will close the curtains at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre for the last time on December 31. At the time of it’s closing, it will have played 725 performances on the back of 34 previews.

The Addams Family originally started with a tryout run at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre in November 2009. The original Broadway cast featured Nathan Lane (Gomez) and Bebe Neuwirth (Morticia). Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice wrote the book based on the cartoon characters by Charles Addams rather than the popular television or film.

Though ‘The Addams Family’ is turning out the lights on Broadway, the fun will continue on. A national tour launches at New Orleans’ Mahalia Jackson PAC on September 15. Currently, the popular musical is set to visit 30 cities over the course of 2012. Our international neighbors will get their own productions as well, specifically San Paulo (Brazil) and Sydney (Australia) come 2013.
