The Sound of Music Philadelphia | Academy of Music

Beautiful music will resonate all over Philadelphia this spring! The Sound of Music, the exciting new production of a much loved theater classic, will be part of the 2015-2016 Broadway Philadelphia series. Opening on March 15, 2016, The Sound of Music has a very limited eight-show engagement at the Academy of Music until March 20, 2016.

Inspired by Maria Trapp’s memoir, The Sound of Music is the romantic and spirited tale of Maria and the Family Von Trapp. While temporarily out from the monastery, nun wannabe Maria is assigned to be the Von Trapp children’s new governess. A rowdy and sullen bunch, the children is soon won over by Maria’s kind-hearted patience, persistence, and music. With direction by Jack O’Brien, three-time Tony Award winner, The Sound of Music is all set to thrill its audience once again with its Tony, Academy, and Grammy winning Best Score that include unforgettable classics like “The Sound of Music,” Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”

Don’t miss The Sound of Music as it takes center stage at the Academy of Music on March 15 to 17 (Tuesday to Thursday) at 7:30 PM, on March 18 (Friday) at 8 PM, on March 19 (Saturday) at 2 PM and 8 PM, and March 20 (Sunday) at 1 PM and 6:30 PM. The running time of The Sound of Music is 174 minutes.
