Multi-award winning rock musical ‘American Idiot’ goes on a North American tour this winter, and Broadway star Van Hughes has been tapped to reprise his role as Johnny for the trek.
‘American Idiot’ tells the story of three lifelong friends who are baffled with the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, told through the hits of Green Day. Green Day vocalist and principal songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong co-wrote the musical with Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, who also helmed the musical’s Broadway run.
Joining Hughes in the roster are Jake Epstein (Will), Scott J. Campbell (Tunny), Leslie McDonel (Heather), Gabrielle McClinton (Whatsername)and Nicci Claspell (the Extraordinary Girl), along with 12 other talents rounding up the ensemble.
The tour will kick off in Toronto with a two-week stop from December 28 to January 15, 2012. The itinerary will include 14 other American cities to be announced later.
