Wicked New Orleans | Saenger Theater

Wicked New Orleans | Saenger Theater

The Tony Award winning musical ‘Wicked returns to the Big Easy by popular demand for a month-long run at the Saenger Theater from May 25 to June 19, 2016.

From the musical genius who brought us ‘Pippin’ and ‘Godspell’, Stephen Schwartz and acclaimed writer Winnie Holzman comes this generation’s most eye-opening and game changing musical, ‘Wicked’. A revealing and marvelous musical about the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West from her tender years in Munchkinland to her cursed adult life making her one of musical theater’s most infamous characters, ‘Wicked’ has earned praises from both fans and critics for its stunning and vivid visuals, designs and costumes, a substantial and cleverly penned tale showing audiences that there are always two sides to every story, and scores and songs from Stephen Schwartz which include the modern day show tune standard ‘Defying Gravity’. It is no wonder critics hail this masterpiece as “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” and “the defining musical of the decade” (The New York Times).

Show times for ‘Wicked’ in New Orleans are at 8 PM from Tuesdays to Saturdays and 7:30 PM on Sundays. Matinee performances are at 2 PM on Saturdays and 1 PM on Sundays, with a special matinee on June 19, Sunday at 2 PM. The performance running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes with 1 intermission.

“The Broadway Across America tours that come to New Orleans vary wildly in quality, but Wicked has what they all should have: an accessible, poppy score, plenty of in-jokes, some superlative stagecraft and, of course, flying monkeys.” – Kevin Allman of Best of New Orleans

“Wicked” will likely remain one of the most popular shows to hit New Orleans in years; and despite my reservations, its success is fully warranted. After seeing it, however, do yourself and your children a favor – sit down with them one night and watch “The Wizard of Oz” again, too.” – Theodore P. Mahne of The Times-Picayune

“It is a play that challenges the ideas of belief, and it asks us all to consider what it means to be “wicked.” In a place like New Orleans, it feels like Wicked is saying, “There’s no place like home.” – Kelley Crawford of NOLA Defender
