The hit musical Beautiful portrays Carole King as an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. According to the New York Times, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical showcases “the real, conflicted person within the reluctant star”.
The Tony Award-winning musical follows the remarkable story of King’s journey from a shy Brooklyn teenager to one of the most famous solo acts in pop music history. At the age of just 17, Carole King steps into the record business with her first hit – Will You Love Me Tomorrow. Even before she reaches her 20s, King is writing hit songs for some of the most recognized artists of the time, such as The Monkees, The Shirelles, The Drifters and Aretha Franklin. She is also accomplished as a mother and wife, partnering with her husband Gerry Goffin and composing couple Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, with whom she writes the “soundtrack of a generation”. But it isn’t until her personal life begins to fall apart, that she finds her true voice and discovers her true identity as an artist.
Tony Award nominee and Academy Award nominated screenwriter Douglas McGrath develops the book, while direction is managed by Marc Bruni. The choreography is led by Josh Prince and the score features some of the most iconic pop hits of all time: You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling, You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman, Take Good Care Of My Baby, So Far Away, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, One Fine Day and Locomotion.
You can be a part of this captivating story, next Broadway season at the Straz Center in Tampa, Florida starting with March 24 until April 1st 2018.
