Fela! Philadelphia | Kimmel Center

Fela! Philadelphia | Kimmel Center

The most celebrated musical of last year comes to Philadelphia in spring next year. Everybody say “yeah yeah” for ‘Fela!’ when it hits the Academy of Music at the Kimmel Center for a week-long run, from March 20 to 25, 2012.

The musical tells the story of Nigerian activist and musician Fela Kuti, who originated Afrobeat, a music genre filled with soulful rhythms, electrifying beats, vibrant dance steps and a spirit that is more than enough to inspire a country tormented by government oppression, corruption and stripped off their dignity as a whole. Be inspired with Fela’s courage, passion, artistry and nationalism, and be entertained with the show’s music and scores, its Tony Award winning choreography, and its vibrant set and costume designs, which also won Tony honors.

Show times for ‘Fela!’ are at 7:30 PM on Tuesday to Thursday, 8 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 6:30 PM on Sunday. Matinee performances are at 2 PM on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday.
