Wicked Jacksonville | Moran Theatre

Coming to Jacksonville, FL right at the start of the new year is the critically acclaimed and Tony winning back story to one of musical theatre’s most notorious villains, or villainesses, that is. This is ‘Wicked’, and it is slated to enchant and bewitch the Moran Theatre Times Union Center from January 4 to 22, 2012.

Carefully adapted, crafted, written and executed, ‘Wicked’ has earned praises in Broadway and overseas for giving the Wicked Witch of the West her fair share of the spotlight, from her difficult childhood, where people easily passed judgment at her for her emerald skin, beautiful mind and outspoken nature, leading to her tumultuous adult years until she became the Wicked Witch. It also features the story of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, Elphaba or the Wicked Witch’s rival, a rivalry springing from their childhood days until they went on their separate ways. ‘Wicked’ has a lot in store for musical theatre fans, it’s got drama, theatricality, a relevant and substantial story that has its roots from the ‘Wizard of Oz’ tale (or the other way around since this is the back story of the Witches of Oz), animated characters like a long-spanned dragon and monkeys flying everywhere, and touching music, with songs like ‘Defying Gravity’, that will remain with us even after the last note has been sung. The performance running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes with 1 intermission.
