A Raisin in the Sun New York | Ethel Barrymore Theatre

A beloved play about a racially charged past, A Raisin in the Sun is the classic story by Lorraine Hansberry. The play brought issues faced by the racially segregated African American community during the 50’s to white audiences for the first time and changed American theatre forever.

A Raisin in the Sun originally debuted on Broadway on March 11, 1959 and ran for two years. This new production stars Oscar-award winning actor Denzel Washington in the role of Walter Younger who lives in a dilapidated apartment in Chicago’s South Side. His mother receives a hefty insurance check and has her sights set on buying a house in an all-white neighborhood.

Don’t miss this piece of theatre history which plays at the Barrymore Theatre for 14 weeks only. With previews beginning March 8, 2014, A Raisin in the Sun will open on Broadway on April 3, 2014. Showtimes vary for this new production so book your tickets now.
