One man revolutionized music by putting names like Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, and so many more atop the charts. The story of Barry Gordy is retold through the all new Broadway musical spectacular in Motown. Coming to the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte in August 2015.
Gordy’s love story with Dianna Ross is framed by the early hits of Motown. From the humble beginnings to starting his own record label, to unearthing stars that would eventually take the world by storm, Gordy sparks a musical revolution with The Supremes and Ross, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and The Jackson Five. Hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Do You Love Me?” and “I Hear a Symphony” get you out of your seat and dancing in the jukebox musical that received four Tony Award Nominations in 2013.
It’s going to be an exciting year when Motown takes over Charlotte. The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center plays host to the critically acclaimed musical that will play at the Belk from August 25 to September 6, 2015. Performances will be at 7:30pm on Tuesdays through Thursdays, at 8:00pm on Fridays, 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturdays, and at 1:00pm and 7:00pm on Sundays. Mondays, the theatre will be dark.
